Brand identity, art direction, campaign, social, and merchandise for The Waackenize Fest — a biannual waacking festival that brings dancers from different countries and communities together for a dance exchange in Singapore. Following an inaugural Hong Kong edition in 2024, the 2026 edition centres on South Korea, featuring workshops, a showcase, and a 1-v-1 battle over three days.
A festival that brings dancers and judges from different countries and communities together to share and exchange in Singapore needs an identity that can flex edition to edition, rather than trying to represent every scene at once under one fixed look.
The asterisk in “W*ackenize” encompasses both accepted spellings of the dance — waacking and whacking, used interchangeably across the LGBTQ+ and commercial dance communities — in a single mark, rather than choosing one over the other. Cropped fragments of outlined Korean type are used as a background graphic across the system, signalling the 2026 edition's host country without needing to spell anything out.
BRAND IDENTITY
A wordmark built around the asterisk as a device that holds both spellings of "waacking" at once, paired with cropped fragments of outlined Korean text used as a graphic background across posters and event materials.
A high-contrast duotone photographic treatment in red and blue, drawn from the South Korean flag, applied across lineup and judge announcement imagery for the 2026 edition.
Festival merchandise and Instagram content for judge and lineup reveals, plus live event photography documenting the identity in physical space.
A complete identity system carried from the first announcement through to the live event itself — posters and phone-ready assets for early promotion, Instagram lineup reveals for visiting judges and DJs, printed and embroidered towels as festival merchandise, and on-site stage branding. The identity held up across every scale, from a single Instagram tile to a full venue backdrop, for the festival's second edition in January 2026.
